Resin corset, black silk, 24 karat gold

A corset cast in resin and set with flakes of 24 karat gold, worn over a black skirt cut high at the thigh, a gold ribbon running the length of the spine. Hand manipulated fabric, hardened to hold its shape.

The black is grief, plainly said. The gold is what grief cannot take. The cracks are left visible and filled with light, the way a person is remembered most clearly in the places their leaving broke open. Made for anyone who has lost someone to this disease.

Look 02The Laurel

The Laurel

Organza two piece with gilded leaves and headpiece

Organza in two pieces, gilded leaves climbing the bodice, a headpiece cut to match, gold wire tracing both sides.

Laurel has crowned the victorious for three thousand years. Here it is placed on the body rather than the brow, because survival is not won in one moment and set down. It is carried. The leaves grow upward, and so does she.

Still the Party

Hand beaded scallops, pink satin lacing

Every scallop beaded by hand, laced along both sides in pink satin ribbon, built to catch light from every angle.

The ribbon is worn openly here, not pinned discreetly to a lapel. A diagnosis does not take dancing, or being looked at, or being the brightest thing in the room. There is nothing brave about dimming.

Liquid satin gown, removable skirt, sixteen panel corset

Liquid satin with a bow close to three feet across, over a removable skirt slit to the thigh. On the runway the skirt comes away to reveal a sixteen panel corset dress beneath, cut short and built like armour.

Softness is not the opposite of strength. What is underneath was always there. She simply stops carrying the weight of it, and what is left is not smaller, it is sharper.
